Kalyan Baruah

Kalyan has been playing the guitar professionally since the last 25 years even though he started out playing the tabla. Folk musicians with their minimalistic instruments and grand emotions were his initial inspirations. He quit his job midway to pursue his passion for music. Soon he started working with music maestros Bhupen Hazarika and singer Zubeen Garg. A music competition organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati brought him to Mumbai. He won the 'Best Guitarist' award in the competition and this encouraged him to work in the Hindi film industry.

He soon began getting offers for ad jingles and television commercials. A chance meeting with music director Salim of the Salim-Sulaiman duo opened the floodgates of offers from the music industry.
