Context:
It’s a song by a Sufi Saint called Bulleh Shah, of his spiritual journey and realizations therein, along with the poets emotions on the subject.
Meaning:
You can be anywhere and still connect to god, going to a Mosque and reciting a prayer is of no use if the same is not done from the heart, with complete faith, to establish a true connection. There is no use cleaning and beautifying your body from outside, if there is malice and deceit within. If the heart doesn’t nurture the picture of The One and Only, but all others, no amount of prayers can ever reach him. For, it is no use committing a sin and then praying, because only deeds matter.
We are all trapped within our worldly devices and hence have no time to even thank Him.
A saint chants to connect to his god from within. They are the songs of his soul, as he is desperate to be one with Him. For this life is impermanent and there is no use just living for selfish needs. His love alone can enlighten our path, because that light is not restricted to the mosques and homes…but is omnipresent.

The meaning:
The song is about a person who has lived and seen the times of India-Pakistan being one nation...times, when people shared a beautiful equation of warmth and oneness, in spite of its religious diversity. He is telling Husna ( in this context, can mean either the “kind Allah” or his mate across the border) about the longing and the painful wait he is going through, to feel what it is to be on the other side.
He asks (with disheartened sarcasm) if the Partition has changed the course of sunrise and the fall of the leaves in autumn on the other side...as it use to be the same before. He misses the ballads of heer-ranjha’s everlasting love, those melodies still haunt him. And the wise words of Bulleh Shah (The Sufi Poet-Saint) still guide him. He asks whether all the faiths (Muslim, Hindu and Sikh) still celebrate each other’s festivals like Eid, Diwali, Holi and Lohri as their own, with the same warmth and enthusiasm...as it was before the Great Divide. Those were the times of no boundaries, no religious divide and no hatred....

Meaning:
It’s so hard to find true friendship and true love in this world. The poet searched everywhere for her one true love, and yet he eludes her. Nobody values genuine feelings anymore, as their minds and hearts are closed. The Poet is tired of explaining her emotions, and says it’s a big responsibility to spread the message of peace and love. For all the pain she’s been through, she only asks to be healed, with a few words of love.
The Poet further explains, that bonds of love can’t be established in a half-hearted manner and they must also be strongly protected from the ways of the world...or else, it is best not to fall in love at all. For, True Love takes a lot of perseverance, and so she has...So all she asks in return is to be healed with just a little bit of love.

Meaning:
The poet is exhilarated with the homecoming of her Satguru, confused with happiness, she enquires from her mother, who should she bow to, and pay respects first? She seeks guidance from the Goddess of knowledge, Ma Saraswati and seeks protection from the Trinity of Hindu Gods: Bhrahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.
Satguru (a Teacher, who has found God and is one with God), in Guru shishya (a deciple/student)tradition of India is the only being/source/way to connect to God and to reach Him. The Poet is feeling elated with the arrival of Satguru...for that has opened possibilities of poet’s rendezvous with god.
The poet is thrilled with the gifts of unsurpassablesacred knowledge that Satguru has bought along and thus, feels indebted… and talks of complete surrender to Him.
Towards the end, praises God for the magic of H is love has opened this gate of kindness...kindness in the form of Satguru’s arrival in the poet’s life.

Meaning:
This song is a deep spiritual expression of the longing of Meerabai (India’s one of the greatest poet Saints and Krishna devotee), for Lord Krishna.
The Poet says that her madness for love of Krishna cannot be comprehended by anyone, as its tough for earthly beings to accept the idea of divine love. She says that the ways of the world are very painful and lack peace...hence it’s impossible to attain peace while being a part of this world. She craves for the ultimate peace and union with god...mentions that it’s a long and an arduous journey to get to him.
She says that, just like only an injured can understand the pain of an injury, and a jeweler understands the true value of his jewels, only the one suffering with this kind of longing, can understand her pain. Meerabai says that her pain will only subside if the doctor i.e. Lord himself comes to heal her.

Meaning:
The poet is expressing her longing for a meeting with God in the initial verses, moving on to explaining the longing for her love, her love that has left her for the love of Divine.
She says that her lover left her to become an ascetic; she feels her life is like that of a spinster, flowing on… and lonely. She implores to God to take her along, breaking all the earthly bonds and crossing all the obstacles on the path.
She says that her lover left for the hills without giving her any time to understand what was going on, but now she feels that just like himself; he has also induced the yearning in her for love, so much so that she also has become an ascetic in his love. She wonders where he has gone and requests the wind to carry her message of yearning to him.
Sufism goes beyond religion and talks about true love for the Almighty. One doesn’t need to visit the temple or the mosque to pray to god, but can do that with an honest plea from anywhere. This song has great positive energy to it and Hitesh Sonik wanted an honest and happy voice to sing it. On hearing the Nooran sisters, he was sure that this would be a great partnership! The Nooran sisters were also part of the iconic track Tung Tung from MTV Sound Trippin. This spiritual song has a subliminal energy thanks to their raw and rustic voices. Through the addition of drums and Balabhaskar’s magical piece on the violin, Hitesh effortlessly brings in a rock vibe to the song.

Hitesh had heard Piyush Mishra sing this song 15 years back and it has stuck in his head ever since. Written and composed by Piyush, this song is a letter from Javed who was separated from his lover Husna during the partition. The song touches upon the pain of separation from true love and also from one's country. Inspite of having left everything behind and eventually moving on, there is a looming sense of helplessness and grief in the song. The feeling of longing is elevated when the lyrics reminisce the small joys of life back then, like the celebrations during Lodhi or even the joy of sharing a simple bowl of sevaiyan.
Piyush may not be a professional singer but being the composer of the song, he connects with the song deeply. And this comes through almost magically in his voice as it bellows out the inner chaos and depression. Musically Hitesh has tried to recreate that era through interesting acoustic guitar arrangement blended with Indian percussions. In keeping with the upheaval experienced by the lovers, Hitesh also ends on a tumultuous high.
Hitesh's father also had to relocate during the partition and though he didn’t suffer personally, he feels his father’s pain and thus associates strongly with the feeling. Such strong storytelling through music and Piyush's hypnotic voice are the main reasons why Hitesh chose to feature this track.

This is a folk song from Madhya Pradesh. In ancient times, the journey from one place to another would take days. People while travelling would then usually sing to ensure everyone is safe. This style of singing was called ‘lum tera’. A member/group at the front of the caravan would sing loudly (lambi ter) and the members/groups at the end would sing back as a response, thereby ensuring connectivity.
